  HOCKADAY ART CENTER

Preschool Art Time

Creative art exploration activities in the Discovery Gallery and Classroom for children ages 2-5, with an adult guardian.

Tuesdays: 11:30 – 12:00                                  

Cost: Free to Museum members at Family Membership level

         Suggested donation $3 per child for non-members 

 

Home School Art Classes

Wednesdays 10:30am-12:00pm / Grades 1-8

Inspiration and education about the artists and art of the Americas!  Each session will focus on a particular artist or cultural group as it teaches the elements of art and principals of design.  All class materials provided.

Cost per session: $6 ($5 with family Museum membership)

Feb 20: Grandma Moses – Folk art painting

Feb 27: Aztec Art – Mosaic animals

 Acrylic Painting

Ages 9-14

Wednesdays: Jan. 16, 23, 30, Feb.  6, 13

Time: 3:30 – 4:45 pm

Create original paintings using artist acrylics. Learn about color mixing, composition, and the use and care of materials.  All supplies provided.

Cost for 5-session class: $35 ($30 with Museum membership)

 

Drawing: Fur, Fin, & Feathers

Tuesdays: Feb. 12, 19, 26, March 11, 25

Ages 7-14

Time: 3:30 – 4:45 pm 

Make your animal drawings more believable – even the imaginary ones!  Learn to draw textures for furry animals, scaly fish, and feathered friends. Real and imaginary animals abound in this delightful class.  

Cost for 5 session class: $25 ($20 with Museum membership)

 

Miniatures & Models

Ages 9-14

Wednesdays: Feb. 20, 27, March 5, 13, 26

Time: 3:30 – 4:45 pm

A sculpture class of miniature proportion…  Explore the possibilities for creating imaginary clay creatures, working vehicles using recycled materials, tiny buildings, and models of people.

Cost for 5-session class:  $35 ($30 with museum membership)

 

 

Spring Break Young Artist Camp

Ages 8–14
Tuesday - Thursday, March 18-20, 10:00 am–12:00 noon

Delve into works of art through a variety of drawing exercises in our galleries.  Classroom experiences will focus on new approaches and techniques to enhance painting skills and personal artistic style.

Cost: $35 ($30 with Museum membership)

 

New! Family Art Program

The perfect antidote for cabin fever, our new, once-a-month, Saturday art classes for parents and children are designed with family membership holders in mind. A different creative art project to explore every month!

No cost for family membership levels and above; $5 for all other participants.

Feb. 9: Valentines of all Kinds - you’ll love them!

March 8: Extraordinary Eggs - exceptional fun, too!

Workshops

Silk Painting Workshop with Julie Wulf

Sat. Feb 23

Ages: Teen-adult

10 am - 4 pm with lunch break (sack lunch recommended)

Montana native Julie Wulf brings a love of color and the spirit of nature to her batiks, watercolors, and silk paintings. A signature member of the Montana Watercolor Society with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Arizona, Julie has won awards in shows throughout the West.

“Dye-ing” to learn about silk painting?  Julie will guide students through the process of creating frame-ready art – dye painted on stretched silk.  Bring an idea or sketch to class to begin on your 15”x 18” finished work.

Cost: $50 plus $5 materials fee (10% members discount on class fee)

 

 Ukrainian Style Egg Decorating

Time: 12:00-3:00 pm

Day: Saturday, March

Ages: teen-adult

Create beautiful Pysanky (Ukrainian Easter Eggs) using beeswax and dyes.  Step by step instruction will include using a kistka to draw melted wax designs; applying dyes; wax removal; and finishing touches.   All materials and tools will be provided for in class use. 

Cost: $20.00   (10% discount on class fee for members)
